Mentor Sentences- Day 2

Invitation to Recognize Parts of Speech

Focus Lesson: Past Tense Verbs

This is the time when we can actually focus on the grammar from within the mentor sentence. This text had several different usages for past tense
verbs and was a great example to demonstrate to the children that verbs can be changed several ways to show what happened in the past.

The class worked together to identify parts of speech from the sentence and diagram the anchor chart. They noticed that there were several PAST TENSE VERBS and that they all had different spelling patterns and rules.

You can…add-ed, change the word completely, or it can stay the same.

Mary Jacob had a great chart that was filled out as the children identified the verbs from within the text.IMG_2641
